Materials and Tools You’ll Need
A piece of cardboard to create a template for the fort Cellophane sheets in three colors (white, yellow, and red) Scissors Craft knife Glue gun
Make a Stained Glass Fort Base
The first step to making a stained glass fort is to make the base. You can start off with some cardboard, but a much sturdier option would be premade redwood slats. To make your stained glass fort base, lay down the slats and then use your glue gun to attach the colored cellophane onto them. Be sure not to put too much glue on one side at once or it will cause bubbles in your final product! Next, cut out shapes from the colored cellophane that you want for your stained glass window and place them into the base of your fort. You’ll want windows in every corner of your fort, so leave enough room for them with each shape you cut out. Add more shapes if you need to create more windows! At this point, you should have a fully functional fort with windows in all four corners! Keep in mind that you can also add other designs such as spirals or even angels onto the top of your fort!
Make Stained Glass Windows
To make a stained glass window, you are going to need to cut a piece of colored cellophane into the size and shape that you want. Then gently fold it in half widthwise, so that when it is right-side-out, there’s a long flap on the side. Next, use your craft knife to cut along the length of the flap to create a window pane. If you want, you can also add some pieces of colored cellophane on top or at the bottom of your window as decorations. Now glue them down with your glue gun using hot glue. Voilà! You now have a beautiful stained glass window for your fort!
Make Stained Glass Doors
To make a stained glass door, you need to first cut a piece of colored cellophane. The size of the sheet will depend on how many doors you want to make. You can get as creative as you desire and use as much or as little color as you like. Next, lay the sheet out on top of a work surface and trace around it with your craft knife. Be sure to leave about half an inch extra space all around the edge so that when you fold it up, it won’t tear too easily. Once the window is traced, carefully cut along the line with your craft knife.
Add Color, Glue, and Secure
First, cut one sheet of colored cellophane in half. Then, take your craft knife and fix it to a large piece of cardboard. If you’re feeling adventurous, you can also use wood to make the base. Now it’s time to create the fort! Take your two pieces of colored cellophane and place them on top of the cardboard as shown in the pictures below. Glue down one piece on one side and then glue down the other piece on the opposite side. Once you’re done gluing, carefully cut out the shapes with scissors so that they are about 1/4 inch tall. Lastly, put a small amount of white glue inside an empty paper towel dispenser and secure your shapes from underneath using it as shown in picture 4, 5, & 6. Now you will have a colorful stained glass fort for kids!
